About the Company

Shakespeare Unchained adapts classic literature using a modern outlook while blending dance and theatre. The company is directed and founded actor/director Julia Siedlanowska and dance artist/choreographer Kara Nolte. Kara and Julia have a mutual love for the ridiculously serious and theatrically rhythmic. They draw on techniques of contemporary dance and physical theatre to create original work. Highly sought after for their artistry, Julia and Kara have collaborated with the Vancouver Art Gallery’s Fuse, Mascall Dance’s Bloom Residency, the Firehall Arts Centre’s BC Buds Festival, the Vancouver Fringe, the Port Moody Arts Festival, SHIFT Festival, Rebel Haunt Theatre and the Vancouver International Chutzpah! Festival to name a few.

Shakespeare Unchained is dedicated to creating and nurturing a vibrant theatre community in the Port Moody and Tri-Cities area.

Shakespeare Unchained is named after their inaugural performance which featured Shakespeare's most famous monologues and duologues performed through movement and dance, outdoors (in the garden of Original's Cafe Mexicano) to the original compositions of Mac Hunter. The performance took place June 2014. Read a review in Glass City here.
